Material Guide

Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is known for its durability and longevity. Unlike silver, which can easily scratch and tarnish, and brass, which is prone to discoloration, stainless steel will continue to look beautiful for years. This material is waterproof, hypoallergenic, and easy to maintain. Stainless steel is also good for the planet. The material is fully recyclable, meaning old jewellery can be given a new life without the need for new raw materials.

Zinc Alloy

A zinc alloy is a mixture of zinc with other metals, such as copper, alluminum, or magnesium, to enhance the properties of the base material. Zinc alloys are often used in the jewellery industry because they are affordable, durable, and easily formed (this is why the more complex charms are zinc alloy).
I try to use nickel-free alloy, but in some cases I cannot guarantee this. If you are sensitive or have a nickel allergy, stainless steel is a better option. Water, perfume, and cleaning agents can damage the finish of zinc alloys and cause discoloration. Remove your jewellery before swimming, showering, or cleaning to keep it in optimal condition.

Celluloid Plectrums

Celluloids are a class of materials produced by mixing nitrocellulose and camphor, often with added dyes and other agents. Basically, a type of plastic.

Be careful with my plectrum pieces in high temperatures and direct sunlight, the plectrum itself doesn't like direct sunlight and can discolour, bend or turn brittle when exposed to high heat. Store it in a dry and cool place, never in direct sunlight, even through your window! Never expose to open flames as celluloid is flammable.

Resin and acrylic charms

Resin jewellery is characterized by a high-gloss, 3D cast finish that is durable, scratch-resistant, and allows for embedding items like flowers. Acrylic jewellery is often cheaper, lighter, and produced from pre-cut sheets or injection molding, offering better UV stability (less yellowing) but less gloss. Both are types of plastics.
